When: 15 – 18 May
Where: Langholm, Scotland
What: A three-day fest in the wilderness of Dumfries and Galloway, with everything from kid-friendly stream dipping sessions to full on 90 mile sportives. There’s also a 25-mile MTB marathon, a half marathon and guided walks aplenty, plus the much-awaited fancy dress bike-competition. Prices vary for each event.
Keswick Mountain Festival
When: 15 – 18 May
Where: Keswick, Cumbria
What: A four day festival offering everything from live music from bands including The Feeling, right through to moonlight canoeing and guided mountain bike rides A family weekend camping ticket costs £110, and gives free access to the activities in the Festival Village (including kayak taster sessions, navigation and tree climbing), live music and 15% off paid-for activities and events.
The Bushcraft Show
When: 24 – 26 May
Where: Catton Hall, Derbyshire
What: A family-friendly weekend celebrating all things bushcraft, with expert talkers and workshops covering everything from firelighting through to tracking through to a Bear Grylls dining experience (worms at the ready). Activities include axe-throwing (!), ziplines and woodland games. A family weekend pass includes camping and costs £240, while Adult day passes start at £16

City to Summit
When: 31 May
Where: Queensferry, Edinburgh
What: City to Summit, launched last year, claims to be the toughest triathlon out there, and we don’t doubt it. After an icy 2.4 mile swim across the Firth of Forth, the route swings into the Highlands with a 118 mile bike stage passing Gleneagles and Glencoe, before disembarking on the shores of Loch Leven for a gruelling 27 mile run to the summit of Ben Nevis. Phew. The £275 registration fee includes feed stations, goodies and safety support.
Filthy Foxes Dirty Weekend
When: 30 May – 1 June
Where: Newnham Park, Plymouth
What: A women-only weekend packed chock-full of workshops, including mountain bike skills tuition, navigation tuition, outdoor advice and an injury advice clinic, plus mountain bike and trail running challenges. The £55 fee includes all activities and camping, and optional extras include glamping, catering and sports massages. Perfect.
