Sleeping on the edge: Barcelona Rock Hostel

Climb, News — By Admin on January 20, 2012 at 12:43 pm

Anyone fancy climbing up to your hotel bedroom setting up camp, harnessing yourself to a rock and spending the night 100m above a city’s skyline?

If plans for a new hostel in Barcelona go ahead, your sky-high dreams may well come true.

Polish architecture firm UGO have designed a 100m-high hostel complete with fifty rooms, a cinema, spa, cafe, pool, gym and bar. So far, not too much to get excited about, but then there’s the fact that the structure’s exterior would be made up of 4m slabs of locally sourced stone, creating a semi-natural climbing wall right in the centre of Barcelona.

Even the rooms aren’t your typical bunk bed-filled hostel dorm. Instead, climbers can spend the night on one of the tower’s rock ledge, with just a harness preventing you from rolling over in your sleep and plummeting to the ground…

Still, its not often you get panoramic views of Barcelona from your sleeping bag, so if plans go ahead you can be pretty sure one of the OAG team will be spending a night or two clinging to the side of a rock…
